Looking like a Christmas Carol Concert to you? This is Karen Blixen's house (Out of Africa) as not so many people see it...
Always good to have a picnic in the evening sun before your Carol Concert. Here we are with our friends Nate and Ginna Killoren, plus Quinn and Liam (not in photo - on bouncy castle). Their church puts on this event as an outreach to the neighbourhood. Nate (from USA) was leading the band and had the challenge of learning the British version of many of the carols (many white Kenyans of British descent live here) - it's surprising how many are different!
You can see the Ngong Hills in the distance
And as the sun sets the place fills up - the later photo of everyone holding candles didn't come out so well but the atmosphere was magic!
Clearly, this is the school for our kids!
Actually, we truly felt it was, and not just for the helicopter! Little Scholars Academy (great name!) is a Kenyan-run, British-system, Christian school with only 45 pupils (only up to Yr 3) and a lovely family atmosphere. It seemed a perfect bridge between the intimacy of home-school and the big school environment which is very likely to come next.
We'd forgotten how fun African rain can be!
It's not holidays yet - school is still in!
Nairobi - colour, new buildings, new designs, and no health and safety!
Lunch with the Nairobi office team at an Ethiopian restaurant. All those along the wall are now elsewhere, although it wasn't the colour of the wall that scared them off! That just leaves Chris (far left) and us, plus 5 wonderful Kenyan staff.
Another peek into the office - this is the 'blue room' where all things logistical (flights, supplies, guesthouse) are managed from. I would hate it but they love it! They work miracles in here - they got one of our team out of the middle of nowhere in South Sudan and halfway around the world to Arkansaw in around 48 hours, so she could be with her dying father. What a blessing!
